There are two ways to find out that a price has moved. One of them keeps the app open, the screen lit and the quote stream running for however long the wait takes. The other lets the phone do the waiting.

The Trade app pairs its simplified charts with price alerts on watched instruments. An alert set and then left alone means the app can be closed: the phone delivers the notification when the condition is met, and the app is opened once — at the moment something actually happened.

  • It is one uninterrupted transfer. Begun on a link that keeps cutting out, it may not reach the end, and a half-arrived file installs nothing. This is the step to spend a steady connection on.
  • Updating becomes a decision rather than a background event. A store refreshes its apps whenever it can; a file installed this way stays as it is until a newer one is fetched from the same official page. On a counted plan that hands the timing back to the reader.

Phone settings worth checking before a metered month

None of these live inside the trading account, and none of them change pricing or execution. They are ordinary phone settings that decide how much of the connection an installed app is allowed to spend.

  1. Decide what the app may do in the background

    Android and iOS both expose a per-app background data control. Restricting it means the app spends the connection when it is open and stays quiet otherwise; notifications still arrive, because the phone delivers those.

  2. Hold store updates for a wi-fi connection

    App stores default to updating whenever they can. Switching that to wi-fi only keeps a full app download off a mobile plan without anyone having to remember it later.

  3. Shorten the watch list

  4. Turn waiting into an alert

    If the plan is to watch a level for hours, set the alert and close the app. This converts hours of streaming into one notification and one deliberate reopening.

  5. Know what a stalled screen means

Walking out of range in the middle of something

A handset does not stay on one link for long. It leaves a building, hands over to the mobile network, drops into a dead corridor and picks up again — all while a chart is on screen. Three of those moments are worth having thought about in advance.
